About

Welcome to Nefarious Reviews, a site for Anime and Manga reviews and articles. Barring extreme circumstances, there will be two reviews a week with the occasional extra content on top of that.

Review System:

The site’s aim is to provide informative, consistent, and objective reviews across the medium. While it is impossible to be completely objective when critiquing the creative arts, I strive to reach that pinnacle. My approach to reviewing is to extrapolate the facts (informative) and convey the emotive response to these facts. In order to remain objective, I follow a system to analyse each aspect of the subject.

For example, in an action series filled with battles, the review’s focus will be on those battles. I look for the marks of good action: depth of strategy, tension, variety of abilities, internal and external character conflicts, and so on. A fight can be great, filled with twists, intelligent strategy, and drama, only to have it ruined by a new ability out of nowhere from the hero to win the day. Then I add on the visual quality, the animation fluidity, and sound effects, analysing each in turn, weighing the value of each and evaluating how they enhance the core focus. In this manner, I work my way through the elements to a conclusion.

In a romance on the other hand, action is pushed to the low tier, if existent at all. Where action could get away with not exploring the fundamentals of human relationships, romance has to bring these to the forefront. In this manner, I approach each genre differently, each series on its own merits.

Finding something to watch:

You can browse anime reviews in several ways: First by English title or the original Japanese title if you prefer.

Have a favourite genre? Find it here. Or do you prefer certain sub-elements such as anti-heroes? Check the list of tags. Want a series with great characters and an outstanding villain, or is quality art more your preference? Then browse by awards.

Not sure what to watch? View by rating and start from the top. Read here for an explanation on the rating system.

(Note: some genres and tags may not have any reviews yet, but as the review count builds, the lists will fill.)

Requests and feedback:

And lastly, if you want to request a series for review, have a suggestion for another genre or tag, or have constructive feedback, then you can contact here.

  1. Fantastic reviews. I watched asura Cryin’ after reading somewhere online saying it was phenomenal. After watching half the series and feeling that I truly wasted my time, I thought “I will look for someone who reviewed it as a piece of crap, then their future reviews will less likely be fanboyish and hopefully more objective.”

And so I found your site.

Awesome Awesome reviews. And I agree with them so much. I know starting your own blog like this may seem daunting and worthless but you have actually made a difference to my life at least. I have stopped watching Asura cryin’, saved at least 3 hours of my life and started using your reviews to find an anime that will suit me more. I am not a massive anime fan, so I rely on other peoples reviews for new shows….I shall be visiting here again!

  2. Thank you! I am glad you enjoy the reviews and, more importantly, saved yourself hours of Asura Cryin’! It is great to hear my reviews have helped even one person.

(Sorry for the late reply; I was on a busy holiday!)

    1. I have read the first book and mean to read the rest (amongst many other titles on my never-shrinking backlist). I love the “spirit animal” magic of the world and the paralel to our world. I’m a sucker for that type of world.
